  • MATH 4332 (Scientific Computing using Python)
  • MATH 4355 (Methods of Applied Mathematics)
  • STAT 3355 (Introduction to Data Analysis)
  • STAT 4360 (Introduction to Statistical Learning)

Admission Requirement (Pre-requisites):

Two semesters of calculus, equivalent to MATH 2413 or MATH 2417 (with a grade of C- or higher) and MATH 2414 or MATH 2419 (with a grade of C- or higher)

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why should I apply for the certificate?

How do I apply?

  • Not already enrolled at UTD: fill-out our Interest Form
  • Already enrolled at UTD:
  1. Go to UTD Student Center
  2. Click Apply to a Certificate Program
  3. Select Program Related Certificate
  4. Select Undergraduate Certificate

  6. Enter name as electronic signature
  7. Click Save Answers and then Next
  8. Submit

What is the deadline to apply?

The certificate can be added anytime. However, the courses need to be taken in a recommended sequence (see above) and not all courses are offered every semester.

I am majoring in data science. Should I consider applying for the certificate?

  • No, your major should provide the needed undergraduate training in Data Science. Due to overlapping curricula, the data science certificate will not offer additional value over the data science major.

Can I take all courses in the same semester?

  • No, some of the courses from Semester I are prerequisites for courses of Semester 2 (see the Recommended Sequence above).

Are all the certificate courses offered every semester?

  • Currently no, but if the demand justifies, we may consider offering all five classes every long semester in the near future.

I have already taken MATH 2418. Can I use it to get credit for MATH 2333?

  • You can use MATH 2418 instead of MATH 2333 to fulfill the certificate requirement.

I have already taken ENGR 2300 (Linear Algebra for Engineers). Can I use it to get credit for MATH 2333?

  • No

I have taken Applied Calculus/Calculus classes before. Will they count as pre-requisites?

  • The pre-requisites are two semesters of calculus, equivalent to MATH 2413 or MATH 2417 (with a grade of C- or higher) and MATH 2414 or MATH 2419 (with a grade of C- or higher). There are calculus sequences that are not equivalent to MATH 2413/MATH 2414. For example, the Applied Calculus sequence MATH 1325/MATH 1326 is not equivalent to MATH 2413/MATH 2414 sequence and will not count as the pre-requisites.

If I get this certificate, will I have another degree in addition to my current one?

  • No, the certificate is not equivalent to another degree. But there will be an annotation in your transcript regarding the certificate.

If I get this certificate, will it delay my graduation date?

  • Taking the courses required for the certificate can delay graduation depending upon when they are taken in your degree plan, but the courses can also be used to satisfy upper-level free elective requirements. Specifics will depend on the degree and when the courses are taken.
